Chef Jason Fox (Commonwealth) and business partner Timothy Felkner (Vigilante Hospitality) have taken over 8 Mint Plaza for their new casual California-Mediterranean concept, Oro.
For more than three years the South of Market space — formerly home to Thermidor — has lain dormant, but as of tonight (Friday, September 11th), the wait is over, as Fox and Co. officially open the restaurant’s doors to diners. Fox and Felkner were originally drawn to space for variety of reasons. In addition to sensing the historic neighborhood’s resurgence, they appreciated the European-vibe of the plaza, which serves as a community gathering spot for food, music and art.
Fox will oversee the restaurant’s menu, along with chef de cuisine Travis Day (Central Kitchen).
Booze-wise, the bar program is under the care of bar manager Randy Mariani (Tupper & Reed, Foreign Cinema) and wine director Kelly Evans, most recently head sommelier at Saison, will tend a 100-plus bottle list.
The restaurant will be open for dinner from 5:30-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and until 11 p.m. Friday-Saturday.
