Hardly Strictly Bluegrass announces surprise-filled lineup

The lengthy lineup has been announced for the 2014 Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, set for Oct. 3-5 at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. It features plenty of the usual suspects -- such as Robert Earl Keen, Ralph Stanley and, of course, Emmylou Harris -- as well as a number of intriguing surprises.

Most notably, the festival will host two first-tier punk-rock legends -- Social Distortion and X. It will also feature indie-music favorites Cibo Matto and Yo La Tengo as well as hip-hop crew Deltron 3030, performing with a full orchestra.

Other top names on the bill include John Prine, Ryan Adams, Lucinda Williams, Sharon Van Etten, Dawes, Conor Oberst, Mavis Staples, Chris Isaak, Rosanne Cash and Dwight Yoakam.

Susannah: The San Francisco Opera

NEW PRODUCTION

 In the backwoods of Tennessee, a beautiful young woman is accused of indecent behavior after she is discovered bathing naked in a stream. Will the charismatic traveling preacher who sets his sights on her soul be her salvation, or her downfall? Carlisle Floyd’s all-American score, which beautifully evokes the work’s rural Appalachian setting, “is unabashedly neo-Romantic” (The New York Times). The radiant Patricia Racette sings the title role, with Brandon Jovanovich as her brother and Raymond Aceto as the hell-raising itinerant preacher. Conductor Karen Kamensek makes her San Francisco Opera debut in this eagerly awaited Company premiere directed by Michael Cavanagh (Nixon in China, 2012).
