Legendary 49ers QB Joe Montana closes on a condo in San Francisco's Marina district for $2.275 million

NFL Hall of Famer and Mediterranean mega-enthusiast Joe Montana and his wife, Jennifer Montana, are the new owners of a bright two-bedroom condo in the Marina. The condo, which takes up the lower floor of a two-unit building, listed in February for $1.95 million. The Montanas went into contract March 1 and quickly closed a few days later, according to the MLS and property records. Their $2.275 million bought a bright unit with two bathrooms, parquet wood floors, arched windows and doorways, and 1,873 square feet of space, as the LA Times reported. The kitchen looks recently renovated, and there's a nice-looking built-in bench in the hallway (for quickie time-outs, we presume?).

Though the Montanas have been in and out of various San Francisco properties—they let go of a two-bedroom in the Millennium Tower last year and previously held this 101 Lombard townhouse—it's hard to say whether this is an investment, residence, or city pied-à-terre. Given that the patio is shared with the top unit, we'd guess the former, unless the neighbors are Montana besties.

Onetime Madison Bumgarner Condo Goes to Bat for $1.999M

A large but otherwise kind of blah two-bedroom at the 

Metropolitan in South Beach does have one thing going 

for it: The unit was once upon a time rented by 

Madison Bumgarner, about "three baseball seasons ago,"

 per broker Paul Hwang. As Hwang tells it, Bumgarner 

rented the condo from former MLB pitcherDontrelle 

Willis, who owned the unit between 2008 and 2012. 

Willis sold the condo in 2012 for $1.25 million—and 

that was before the latest staging, so those are unlikely 

to be MadBum's New Yorker covers in the bedroom or 

his shell collection in the bath.

The unit has two bathrooms and 1,622 square feet of space, 

making it $1,232 per square and $999,500 per baseball 

personality. For HOA dues of $886/month, the building is 

full of amenities, from a lap pool to a gym to a roof deck, 

from which the much fancier Lumina can be seen rising 

nearby.
