The glassy home at 2635 Broadway in Pacific Heights has always stood out. Designed by architect John Field and built in 1969, the property sits just east of the section of Broadway known as Billionaires' Row. When the house last hit the market back in 2013, we noted its "retro glamour" and pointed out that there was room for interior updating. The buyers of the home did indeed update it, taking it through a major renovation led by Sutro Architects that has left it glassier, fancier, and, of course, much more expensive. The house sold for $5.4 million back in 2013 and is now looking for $9.5 million, a big jump of $4.1 million.
In an unusual twist, a living wall now grows up two columns of the facade, meaning that nearly the entire front of the house is either glass or greenery. Inside, the mirrored walls and extensive carpeting are gone, replaced by oak and neutral paint. There are four bedrooms, each of which has an en suite bathroom, and an open floor plan on the main level. The huge window in the master suite overlooking the bay is still there, and the gardens out back have remained, thankfully, lush and green instead of being overly manicured. Several of the rooms look out onto the verdant greenery, so nearly every room has quite a nice view.
