Pac Heights mansion, once home to Metallica’s Kirk Hammett, rocks the MLS

Pacific Heights is home to many a local celeb, from Gold Coast heirs to romance novelists to rock stars. And though the neighborhood, with its stately manses reclining on generous lots, doesn’t exactly scream “metal,” it was, for well over a decade, the locale of Metallica’s own Kirk Hammett.
Indeed, the iconic lead guitarist owned  2505 Divisadero for 16 years before selling it in 2009 for  $7.6M. The next owner held on to this Georgian 3-story, 8 bed, 7 bath abode for 3 years before listing it again, during which time, according to Curbed SF, the home underwent “careful remodel,” which, if the official website photos are anything to go by, meant largely restyling it to suit the tastes of high society circa 1899, when the home was originally built by architect Edgar Mathews. (We tried to bring the rock back by using a Metallica song in every caption in the gallery above.)

No metal, but lots of bling
This is not to say there aren’t modern touches for the discerning Pacific Heights buyer– rather just that many of these more modern accoutrements have been layered over in damask and marble. Per the official listing, features include:
  • -3 car motorcourt/2 car driveway parking
  • -Wainscoting, hardwood floors, hand painted moldings, Carerra marble, damask, granite
  • -Library
  • -Chef’s kitchen with SubZero refrigerator, stunning LaCornue double oven
  • -Garden and grounds with city/Bay views
  • -Master suite with walk-in closets
  • -billiard/game room with full bar, banquette seating and adjoining wine tasting room
  • -Gym / play room
  • – Media room
  • – Security system with 7 cameras and motion sensors
  • – 2,000 bottle wine cellar
When the home hit the MLS in 2012, the asking price was $9.25. Failing to find a buyer then, it disappeared from the market, only to reappear dramatically at its new listing price, $12.5M.
Maybe it will sell quickly this time. After all, the Bay Area has the fastest selling real estate in the country now. But if the Metallica history is going to help the sale, wouldn’t it be nice if we saw something metal about the place? Other than the 2,000 bottle wine cellar, billiard room with bar, the media/theater room and the security system, it doesn’t really say “rock star,” but maybe the remodel was meant to banish that factor, not celebrate it–rendering this 8,400 square foot manse fairly unremarkable among its equally palatial neighbors. So is it worth $3.25M more than 3 years ago? The comments await.
