5 Sexy New Wine Country Spas

Extend spa bliss with meditation (and cocktails) around The Spa in Hotel Healdsburg's new swimming oasis. (photo courtesy of the hotel)

Ditch your cell phone, shut down the computer, and escape into the bliss of a pampering day at the spa. These new and recently-renovated retreats beckon.

The Spa at Hotel Healdsburg
The outdoors come inside at this luxury, six-room oasis with fragrant gardens and a brand new, tropical-inspired pool lounge. The just-unveiled-this-week meditation landscape brims with white roses, fig trees, and Blushing Bride hydrangeas, perfect for settling back in deep chaise seating in the shade of the heritage olive grove. Bonus: A new, custom zinc and concrete pool bar offers spa (and non-spa) bites and cocktails from Pizzando. // 25 Matheson Street, Healdsburg, hotelhealdsburg.com/spa
Must-Try Treament: The new Swedish massage with basil, lime, and jasmine oils, and coconut butter crème.

The Spa Gourmet
Husband-and-wife team Cindy Scott-Fuchs and Trip Fuchs dreamed of starting their own company, and thought: Why bother with brick and mortar, when so much of the Bay Area is so beautiful? Pairing a joint love of beauty and food, the one-of-a-kind Spa Gourmet coordinates a custom location— be it a private, luxury rental home on Dillon Beach or somewhere in the Sonoma mountains—sets up a complete spa on-site, and Trip, a private chef, cooks an entire feast for you to enjoy. It’s an indulgent, sumptuous, overnight mini vacation for couples and small to mid-size groups. // thespagourmet.com
Must-Try Treament: Thai massage with hot stone therapy, warm foot wrap, and mini facial of lavender infused steam, herbal cleanser, Indian clay mask, and coconut oil massage.

Indian Springs Resort and Spa
Owners John and Pat Merchant have put a lot of love – and cold cash – into the rebirth of this grand property built in 1910. Parts of the spa actually date back to the mid-1800's, for renowned mud baths fed by onsite mineral waters and pure volcanic ash deposits from the eruption of Mt. Lincoln and Mt. Konocti thousands of years ago. The new Olympic-sized, mineral swimming pool is fed from four onsite geysers, and soothes at 102 degrees in the winter and 92 degrees in the summer.  // 1712 Lincoln Avenue, Calistoga, indianspringscalistoga.com/spa
Must-Try Treament: A long soak in the geyser-fed Buddha Pond for meditation and serenity, then a warm mud bath/wrap in pure volcanic slurry, created with hot mineral geyser water mixed with mined on-site ash.

Senza
The Hall family just debuted this sophisticated new destination within the 18-suite Senza (formerly La Residence), and made the experience even more relaxing by offering the option of treatments within the spa, on on your private terrace, or in your suite.  // 4066 Howard Lane, Napa, senzahotel.com
Must-Try Treament: “Gifts from the Vine,” including a body buff, rose petal body butter/grape seed extract massage and wrap, and a lavender, rose, and honey enriched grape seed facial.

Meadowood Napa Valley
The new 14,000-square-foot, hillside showcase spa is finally — finally — set to open this fall. To make it real (after what seems like forever construction), the posh resort has hired Michael Conte as director of spa and wellness. Now is a good time to think about reservations for the sure-to-be-popular eight suites, all of which include a private bathroom, steam shower, daybed and a lounge area to enjoy tea and nibbles while taking in forest views. // 900 Meadowood Lane, St Helena, meadowood.com/spa
Must-Try Treament: “From the Earth,” featuring a scrub of black walnuts sourced from the property.
